Planning a visit to a family home
Can you visit a private siheyuan in Beijing?
Some private siheyuan welcome visitors by appointment. At Golden Silk Courtyard, we arrange visits for one group at a time. Viewing an available time or sending an enquiry does not confirm a visit. We’ll send the exact address and directions once we have confirmed the date and arrangements with you. Please wait for that confirmation before coming.
Which areas you can visit
We’ll agree the areas included in your visit beforehand. Closed rooms and family belongings remain private unless we have agreed otherwise.
Personal photos and dedicated shoots
Please discuss casual personal photos with us before your visit. Dedicated portrait or fashion sessions, editorial shoots and commercial photography need a separate photography enquiry.
Tell us about practical needs
The home has thresholds, narrow passages and uneven surfaces. Please tell us about mobility, seating, children’s ages or dietary needs before we confirm the visit.

How much does a private courtyard visit cost?
From CNY 150 / person · 1 hour · 1–20 guests. The family confirms the date, arrangements and final price by email before your visit.
Can I visit alone?
Yes. The Private Courtyard Visit welcomes 1–20 guests, with one private group at a time. The dumpling lunch and hutong walk each currently require at least two guests.
Can the family welcome me in English?
A family member will welcome you. We can arrange an English-speaking host; our father shares the family's understanding of courtyard feng shui and culture. Tell us your interests, and we’ll confirm who can join your visit.
How do I pay?
For a courtyard visit, you can pay on arrival. You may try Alipay; please also bring the agreed amount in RMB cash, as payments funded by overseas cards may not work with our personal QR code. We’ll confirm payment arrangements for lunches and other requests by email.
Can I take photographs or a travel video?
Please tell us if you would like to take photos or record a travel video. Ask before photographing people or publishing footage. Private rooms are not included; commercial shoots are arranged separately.
