Visiting a family home with care
Can you visit a private siheyuan in Beijing?
Sometimes—but a private siheyuan is a home before it is a visitor attraction. Golden Silk Courtyard welcomes cultural visits only after the family confirms the request, with one group at a time. An available time is not yet a booking, exact directions are shared only after confirmation, and unannounced visits are not accepted.
Some parts of the home remain private
A confirmed visit includes only the areas agreed with the family. Closed rooms and everyday family belongings are not automatically part of the experience.
Photography is not the same as production
Personal photographs can be discussed as part of a visit. Editorial, fashion, portrait or commercial photography requires a separate creative project enquiry.
Access needs should be discussed early
Historic thresholds, narrow passages and uneven surfaces remain. Visitors should share mobility, seating, children’s or dietary needs before confirmation.
